“Let’s Get Real”

we can show up just as we are, planting ourselves in the love of the divine, allowing our roots to grow as the real, imperfect, flawed, quirky, weird, beautiful humans that we are.

First things first… “Suh-wahr-oh”

Saguaro cactus - A tall, candelabra-like shaped cactus, found exclusively in the Sonoran Desert of southern Arizona and western Sonora Mexico.

What about the roots of a Saguaro?

Saguaro Roots Spiritual Direction gets its name from the majestic saguaro cacti of the Arizona Sonoran Desert. Saguaros have an intricate root system. A single taproot grows straight down about five feet to access water that’s stored deep underground. A saguaro’s main roots, however, extend like a maze about three inches under the surface to easily collect rainwater.

Saguaros grow very slowly.

Like the saguaro’s taproot, we reach deep into the Divine and drink from the deep well of love, wisdom, and even mystery. We are then, like its other roots, able to reach our arms out wide toward others. Spiritual transformation may be slow like the growth of the saguaro, but as we lean in, with open palms, we are invited to journey with the cosmic Divine.

What is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual direction is the practice of one (spiritual director/companion) sitting with another (directee) as they deepen their relationship with the Divine and/or grow in their own spirituality. As the directee shares of their encounters with the Divine and how they are curating a life that is attuned to the Spirit, the spiritual director listens deeply. The spiritual director may ask questions that are intended to assist the directee in his/her/their reflection and spiritual growth. It is one journeying along the path of another in a place nothing short of sacred space.

Spiritual direction is not psychotherapy or counseling.
